Tirana, 01.04.2026 – The Director General of Customs, Mr. Besmir Beja, together with the Minister of Finance, Mr. Petrit Malaj, conducted a working visit to the Hani i Hotit customs point, one of the most important customs points in the country and a key trade gateway to European markets.
During the visit, they were closely acquainted with the daily activity of the customs branch, the process of processing customs declarations, and the measures being taken to facilitate the scanning of goods and vehicles, with the aim of increasing security, processing speed, and transparency of procedures.
During the meeting with employees of this customs branch, discussions also focused on issues related to the high volume of international transport, waiting times, improving coordination with Montenegrin customs authorities, and the necessary investments in infrastructure and digitalization to facilitate the activities of businesses and transport operators.
Minister Malaj emphasized the importance of modernizing the customs administration and facilitating procedures for businesses, especially regarding the control of imports and exports, as part of Albania’s European integration process.
The Director General of Customs stated that the institution is implementing a European model aimed at a fast, transparent, and reliable customs system, through the use of information technology, data analysis, and interinstitutional cooperation. Meanwhile, one of the main objectives remains the promotion of increased Albanian exports and ensuring faster supply of imports, thereby strengthening trust among international partners.
The Hani i Hotit Customs Office is one of the most strategically important customs points for the entire northern region of Albania. This land border point with Montenegro carries the main weight of customs activity in the region. Revenues generated in 2025 have increased, while the average clearance time has decreased, reflecting improved processes and operational efficiency.
