The General Director of Customs pays an official visit to the Headquarters of the General Command of "Guardia di Finanza", the signing of the Memorandum on increasing of cooperation is expected 26th of January 2024

Following the meetings on 25.01.2024 with the Director of Customs and Monopolies Agency, Mr. Roberto Alesse, and the Commander-in-Chief of the "Guardia di Finanza", Mr. Andrea De Gennaro, the General Director of Customs, Mr. Genti Gazheli, was received on Friday on an Official Visit to the Headquarters of the General Command of "Guardia di Finanza”.

This is the first visit of the General Director of Customs to "Guardia di Finanza" and Mr. Gazheli appreciated as very important the assistance of "Guardia di Finanza", mainly in the role of the Financial Police in the fight against smuggling, trafficking and the transportation of money.

Among the Heads of the Institutions, it was agreed on signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation aiming:

(i) prevention of illicit trade mainly by the sea,

(ii) the exchange of information between the two Institutions in the function of risk analysis,

(iii) training of Albanian Customs staff at the "Guardia di Finanza" Academy, etc.

The cooperation between the Albanian and Italian authorities in the field of Customs has a special importance since Italy is Albania's main partner with a trade volume of around 3.5 billion Euros per year, of which around 1.73 billion Euros are exports and 1.77 billion Euros are imports.
